Compera is a conceptual, mobile cryptocurrency wallet created as an exploration into how crypto and blockchain technology could better support everyday peer-to-peer payments.
The project focuses on studying how strong UX, clarity, and trust can reduce friction in decentralized financial tools, reimagining how Web3 experiences might feel more approachable without compromising core crypto principles.
The Problem
Despite growing adoption, cryptocurrency wallets remain difficult to use for everyday peer-to-peer payments. Existing products often prioritize decentralization and technical capability at the expense of usability.
Key Challenges
• Overwhelming interfaces
• Unfamiliar terminology
• Lengthy wallet addresses
• Poor onboarding
• Friction when sending/receiving
User Persona
Empathizing With the Modern Crypto User
To ground the concept in real-world behavior, I began by defining a primary user persona based on common frustrations and motivations around crypto usage. Dave, a freelance photographer, represents a growing group of users who primarily use modern peer-to-peer payments systems, such as PayPal and Venmo, but have a growing interest in non-traditional currencies.
Key takeaways: Understanding Dave’s needs, frustrations, and emotional state helped frame Compera as a tool for using, not just investing.
Understanding the End-to-End Payment Experience
Journey Map
After defining the user, I created a journey map to better understand where friction currently exists when getting paid in crypto, emotional highs and lows throughout the process, opportunities to educate without overwhelming, and moments where trust and clarity matter most
Key takeaways: This exercise revealed key breakdowns during onboarding, first transactions, and ongoing usage — guiding where Compera could meaningfully improve the experience.
USer Flow
Paving the Path to a Modern Crypto Experience
With problems and opportunities clearly defined, I mapped a complete user flow for the Compera wallet.
Areas of focus: onboarding experience, simplifying the dashboard focused on clarity and confidence, wallet and contact management, opportunities to buy, trade, and send crypto, clear feedback and transaction visibility throughout
Key takeaways: The goal was to create a natural, intuitive path that felt familiar to users of modern payment apps while remaining fully decentralized.
Design Strategy
Creating a More Human Crypto Experience
Compera was designed around the idea that crypto products should feel more intuitive and friendly. With the additional ideology of having a primary focus on peer-to-peer payment, a key concept was introduced - DTags (Decentralized User Tags).
Outcome: Usernames attached to public wallet addresses, easier and safer on-chain peer-to-peer payments, reduced friction when adding contacts, improved understanding of transactions
Design & Prototyping
Interacting With a Concept
After finalizing the user flow and low-fidelity wireframes, I moved into high-fidelity design.
Using a pixel-perfect design system, I designed every screen, interaction, alert, and state within the mobile app. Figma’s prototyping tools were then used to connect the experience into a fully interactive prototype, allowing the flow and features to be tested and refined holistically.
Areas of Focus: Clear hierarchy and readable layouts, approachable language and microcopy, reducing cognitive load, building trust through transparency, higher focus on payments
Results
Reimagining The Typical Crypto Wallet
The final result is a fully designed mobile-first crypto wallet experience that reframes Web3 interactions around clarity, trust, and human-centered design into a product that focuses on peer-to-peer payments in a modern way.
As a conceptual project, Compera explored realistic constraints around mapping decentralized user tags to wallet addresses and supporting secure identity resolution. Onboarding complexity remains unavoidable due to required crypto on-ramps, and the design focuses on reducing friction without oversimplifying necessary steps.
